ICT - Intuitive Casting Taper

The ICT fly rod follows on from the famous GHR legacy with a refinement and improvement in design, build quality and materials. Utilizing the helical wind the 4 piece ICT blanks are strong and do not require Ferrule wraps at the joins. This technology reduces weight therefore reducing angler fatigue whilst also offering a more powerful and consistent flex through the rod. The ICT uses up to 57msi graphite providing strength and power from very light yet durable material (learn more about Composite Developments blanks). The ICT is built using high quality components including silicon carbide stripper guides, titanium coated snake guides and a skeleton reel seat. As with all the new generation Composite Developments fly rods you get a 5 year unconditional warranty and a new generation Rod Tube. Also all new generation ICT’s come with a spare tip section allowing you to keep fishing if the unthinkable happens when you are on the river. At $799 RRP the Composite Development ICT offers exceptional value and performance – all from a New Zealand based company.

Here are some quotes from professional New Zealand based guides;

“Try and break it on those huge Mamaku browns!” they said, with slightly baited breath! So last season I regularly fished an ICT #8 blank, in the type of country that makes many flyrods wilt. I drove it through willows, logs, flax and more blackberry than your waders could handle, in headlong pursuit of the giant brown beasts that live in there. We won some, we lost some, and I enjoyed some spectacular power-plays with this staunch rod from the CD quiver. This is a big fish rod, yet was receptive to the short casting tricky flickery involved on such choked water. There’s no doubting its power and long line ability and I could feel its guts in mine through the padded fighting butt at critical load times. It hardly broke a sweat on the loads of 3-4 pound bows encountered along the way, whilst hunting out the trophies. It stood up the whole season in those heavy creeks and went many rounds with double figure trout – finally breaking on a tranquil lakeshore late at night, where I crunched it under my wader boot in the dark…Sure took some breaking! I’d be happy to take an ICT for a round in the willows for giant browns any day, or for an evening’s night fishing on the lake edge for trophy rainbows, or even on the Tongariro for that matter…”

"As a fly fishing guide, writer and Certified Casting Instructor I push myself and my professional standards to the highest level, and so it is only fitting to align myself with a quality brand likewise. The CD Rods Pro Network ensures your product has been tested and thrown around by a selection of anglers who know their gear, and know how to push it to the limits. Composite Developments - World class products and customer service right here in Aotearoa."

Chris Dore, Chris Dore’s Trout Safaris

"I have always been a big fan of fast action 8 weight rods, believing them to be the only way to get large nymphs out any reasonable distance. The ICT Seven weight is the first seven weight I have owned and I have found it to box well above its weight. The easy action butt section combined with a quick action tip allows all levels of angler to cast a good long line even with 4mm tungsten bombs. Before purchasing this rod, I wouldn’t have expected to cast across the Boulder Reach of the Mighty Tongariro River with a seven weight, but it is really a pleasure. The rod also copes well when fighting fish – I have pulled some quite large jacks out from under the blackberry on the Hinemaiaia River. This is a task that will test any rod and again it has done the job admirably. Combined with the SLV Reel and an Airflo Line it is a very light weight rig and our beginner clients can fish all day with ease. I would recommend the ICT range to anyone no matter what their skill level is and look forward to giving the rest of the ICT range a work out."
